Australian Open 2021: Serena Williams overpowers Simona Halep to advance into semifinals- 10th seeded Serena Williams on Tuesday thrashed World No.2 Simona Halep to book her place in the Australian Open 2021 semifinals. The 23 times Grand Slam Champion beat the Romanian 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets that lasted an hour and 21 minutes. The 39-year-old will next face Naomi Osaka who had defeated her in US Open final 2018. Serena is only Grand Slam away with Margaret Court (24 Grand Slams). Serena was in an emphatic mood in the first set and she did not give Halep any chance and as a result, the American star won the first set 6-3. Serena hit 14 winners to win the opening set. In the second set, Halep gained a 3-1 lead, but Serena managed to come back to bring the scoreline level at 3-3. Carrying on her with her momentum, Serena made the winning charge and as a result, she ended up winning the match in straight sets. World No. 3 Dominic Thiem took on the Bulgarian talent Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round of the Australian Open 2021. It was their sixth meeting, with the 2017 ATP World Finals champion leading the tie 3-2.
